"Closing the 5 Doors Your Accounts Receivable Escape From at Point of Service"
Original Presentation Dates: July 19, 2011; July 21, 2011

Overview: Seeing patients stand up and walk out the hospital door all on their own is a good feeling, especially if they've recovered from a particularly difficult surgery or illness. Seeing your hospital's accounts receivable collections walk out the door, however, generates an entirely different emotion!

In this complimentary webinar, Irene Barron, a hospital business office expert, discusses:

  • Identify five doors AR collections escape from at point of service
  • Offer some practical ways your facility can shut those five doors for good – to increase collections and decrease bad debt and AR days
  • Explain why healthcare AR is usually not really AR
  • Present tools for evaluating your pre-registration/registration process, to ensure you have an accurate, efficient point-of-service strategy that addresses today's unique challenges
  • Pinpoint areas where you still can take control of your revenue cycle (yes, even amidst the uncertain economy and effects of healthcare reform)

Change Bad Debt to Revenue in Five Simple Steps
Original Presentation Date(s): October 19, 2010; October 21, 2010

Overview: In this webinar, we present five simple – but critically important – steps to change your facility’s bad debt to revenue. With the effects of healthcare reform looming and the overall shift to a more “retail-like” revenue cycle (evermore patient responsibility vs. third-party), now is the ideal time to take a step back and ensure the fundamentals of your facility’s revenue cycle are sound, efficient and effective:

  • Do you have the right policies in place for discounting, payment terms/plans and charity care? How are you monitoring and enforcing these policies?
  • Does your front-end staff follow the same policies as your back-office staff, or are patients getting two different stories?
  • Are you consistently and accurately verifying insurance – every time – on the front end?
  • Do your registrars correctly determine and collect co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance upfront per contracted rates? Are you leaving money on the table? Small balance write-offs mounting? (Estimates show 60 percent to 70 percent of bad debt from patient balances is for insured patients.)
  • Self-pay is predicted to increase 20 percent to 40 percent over the coming year with the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Are you identifying those patients who qualify for financial assistance ... at point of service?
