Self-Payments… With a Little Help
CollectionTechnology.net, by Keith Smith, 4/11/08

With more people paying medical expenses out of pocket, it’s a new kind of debt to deal with. nTelagent Inc. is on top of this trend with the Self Pay Management System.

Traditionally, medical collections are mostly a matter of working things out with the insurance company or government program paying for the patient’s treatment. But it seems there is a trend towards more patients paying out of pocket (self-pay accounts), and nTelagent Inc.’s newly released solution is designed to address this change.

The Self-Pay Management System is a web-based product designed specifically for managing self-pay accounts. It limits the time spent on good debt by automatically figuring out any charity or special funding the patient is entitled to. It also analyzes patient demographics to predict which debt is most likely to go bad and what is the best way to handle it, so you can nip that problem in the bud quickly.

The system actually helps create consistency in how patients receive financial assistance for their treatment, and documents every step along the way for better transparency. But what I like most is how it begins handling the debt before there even is one. It’s common knowledge that you have to act fast on a debt to treat it in the best fashion, but this might be the ultimate take on that goal.
